Nancy Thomas was recently commissioned by St. Andrew's church in Norfolk, VA to create a painting depicting their wonderful church. The St. Andrew's, "Roots Grow Deep" painting was 20x27" and framed in an arch shape like many great paintings of Nancy's over the years. St. Andrews had an auction last weekend and the original painting went to the highest bidder! This month's Wine Tasting at Nancy's Yorktown Gallery will be moved a week earlier due to Thanksgiving. The wine tasting will be on November 17th and be an All Red Tasting in honor of Thanksgiving. This will be a great tasting to purchase all of your unique wines that you plan on serving the following Thursday. Country Vintnor's own Nancy Witte will showcase some wonderful reds she's picked, perfect for your guests! Wine Tasting is from 4-7 p.m. and is FREE. 21 and up please.

A great example of Nancy's early work, this piece is missing its ears, but could probably be repaired. Even without the ears, it's a great piece from the bygone years. These hardwood, maple cutting boards are cut exactly from Nancy Thomas designs and are handmade for Nancy, right here in Virginia! They are between 15" and 19" depending on the design and will last a lifetime; they are even "branded" with the "Nancy Thomas Collection" logo.

These cutting boards need little care except for some olive oil once in a while, other than that, they're pretty much built for the long haul!

CONNECTICUT – At the bottom from the left, we see the very old Sheffield Island

Light House, a mountain laurel (state flower), a Yankee Doodle hat (with feather!) and

a whale. There are two very important vessels to Connecticut’s former economy and its present industry: a whaling ship and a submarine. Across the water is Yale University, which represents several universities in the state and a circus tent, the latter because PT Barnum was born in Connecticut. Above the tent is one of the typical stone walls in the state. To the right of the Yale tower is the dome of the state capitol in Hartford with a charter oak (state tree) in front of it. The robin is the state bird and to its right the home of Prudence Crandall who, by admitting an African American girl to her private school in 1833, ran what is arguably the first integrated school in the U.S. At the top from left are Fall foliage, the Hartford Skyline, the blue dome of the Colt Arms factory and Nathan Hale’s homestead with more mountain laurels. The topper is a whale!

August 15, 2011– A new travel app, "Virginia’s Historic Triangle, a Travel Guide," provides an interactive guide to the region’s historical riches, local favorites, hidden gems, intriguing shops and sights and places for family fun.

The app, a downloadable guide for iPhones, iPod Touches or iPads, was written and photographed by former Williamsburg resident and journalist Mary Ann Hemphill.

Multiple features of this interactive guide allow users to plot their own path through Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and surrounding areas.  Filters sort entries by areas and by special interests, such as family fun, outdoors, historic, dining, or hidden gems. Scrolling down the alphabetical list of more than 140 entries shows users all the terrific things they can do here.

Almost 1,400 photos and videos form slideshows that accompany each entry. Maps show users how to get to their destination by foot and by car. Interactive highlights in the text lead to related entries and websites and provide easy one-tap phone connections. Users can comment directly on an entry and engage with the author. Content can be shared with friends.

Trip planning, travel tips and money savers help travelers maximize their vacation time and money.

Next Wine Tasting - June 30th!

Due to the popularity of Nancy's last wine tasting, the gallery is going to continue in June with another great opportunity to try some fabulous wines. Wine Tastings are free and open to the public (over 21). Upcoming tasting is at the Yorktown Gallery on Thursday, June 30th from 4:30 to 7 p.m. We'll have new wines, snacks and case discounts available - this is a great after-work event!
