Tucked away on a peaceful street in Historic Yorktown Village, surrounded on two sides by historical property – but only a block from the York River with its beautiful sandy beach, shops and restaurants - Nancy has created a remarkable home which she designed and built three blocks from her busy studio and gallery. Nancy is now offering this gem for sale.
Many of Nancy’s homes have appeared in Woman’s Home Companion, House Beautiful, Woman’s Day and other decorator magazines, and her art pieces have been featured in movies and television and in the homes of many celebrities - even the White House! This house is a prized-stop on Virginia Garden Week tours.
Take a scenic trip down the Colonial Parkway to Williamsburg and Jamestown from this incredible property located on a historic, American street!
This particular house of Nancy's is a marvel of her creativity, it features a custom brick patio covered by a wonderful wooden arbor. The property is made private from the street by a picket fence, shrubbery and trees.
Nancy built the house in 2000 from the foundation up on the spot of what was once a working greenhouse. After a few years, the greenhouse was abandoned and fell into disrepair, the property ultimately being bought by Nick and Mary Matthews, the owners of “Nick’s Restaurant” on the York River.
Nancy set about the restoration of the property, designing the new building to fit the exact outline of the former greenhouse! Behind the property, is one of the most important, complete Federal redoubts of the Revolutionary War, and the entire east side is bordered by Park Service property.
Every part of the “cottage” was hand chosen by Nancy and the landscaping surrounding the home was designed by Nancy. The home is a once-in-a-lifetime wonderful opportunity! Please see pictures below and contact us at terry@nancythomasgallery.com for more information.
Our friend Crys brought us a copy of HOME magazine from 1996 that had a feature story on Nancy inside. It was very sweet, Crys had the magazine all wrapped up in plastic when she brought it in for me to scan! We are adding it to the newsletter this week for all to enjoy. After looking around our archives we surprisingly did not have a copy of this one - thanks Crys! I am sure we are breaking every copyright law known to man by posting this, but it is all in the name of great art!
